DEAR CYCLING UK

We love your 100 Women in Cycling award.

We think it’s an excellent initiative.

“There is no longer an excuse for all male guests at cycling events and festivals. Here are hundreds of amazing women to choose from whose voices and stories deserve to be heard.”

Victoria Hazael Founder of Cycling Uk’s 100 Women in Cycling.

We’ve read that due to legal advice, you’ve decided to exclude trans women from this years awards due to the Supreme Court judgement that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.

From what you’ve told us about this initiative, it’s about decentering the male perspective and for that, we need trans voices too.

4 of our ride leaders are proud to have been recognised through this initiative.

As a club that welcomes trans women, we acknowledge that our inclusion in this list shows that Cycling UK supports our work and wants to motivate us to do more of it.

This year, you will have compiled a directory of 800 women who can now be called on by event organisers to diversify the narrative about cycling. This is fantastic work. Thank you.

Trans women being included in that directory doesn’t diminish your goal. It strengthens it.

The enemy is the patriarchy Cycling UK, do not be swayed.
