BIKE TOOL LIBRARY
We’re thrilled to have received funding from BCP Council to set up and run a Bike Tool Library, along with hosting regular ‘open’ workshop sessions where members of the community can come to do maintenance and fix their bikes.
We want to continue building and empowering the cycling community we’ve built through fixing bikes. This funding enables us to purchase tools that can be loaned to members of the community to maintain and repair bikes at home, as well as in the regular open workshop sessions.
We are building a space in which people can share their knowledge about bicycle maintenance, repair, and building whilst connecting with others with similar interests across a range of age groups, genders, and backgrounds. We want this project to break down stereotypes about who can repair and maintain bikes and encourage more women to feel confident fixing and riding bikes.
If you’d like more information about our aspirations, read our full application to BCP Council here.
How does it work?
The bi-weekly workshop sessions invite people to come together to learn skills, share skills, and spend time in the company of others at no cost, contributing to the development of a vibrant community where people are able to access the benefits of cycling and the reward of caring for and maintaining a bike.
We have an inventory of bike stands and tools to use on your own bike. We’ll have some volunteers on hand to welcome you and share their knowledge of fixing bikes.
Find us the second and fourth Thursday of each month at The Old School House in Boscombe. Drop-in from 7-9pm. Bring your bike and any spare parts you might need. Up to date information about session dates can be found on our 🗓️ Calendar.
Can I borrow tools to use at home?
We plan to operate a tool loan system so people can also borrow tools to use and home in their own time. There will be an online system that allows people to log their items and for us to keep track of inventory. We’ll update this webpage once it is up and running.
I love this idea, how can I support?
Thanks, we’re excited too. If you have tools, time or expertise to contribute, reach out to us at Newforestoffroadclub@gmail.com. We’re building a team who can run the Tool Library together.
See you at the bike stand. ✌️
